The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
